My Roaring Twenties
What it’s like to be twenty-something The 1920s also known as the roaring twenties was a time of growth and change, a time where the economy, music, and fashion thrived. During this decade there was a new sense of freedom and optimism, two words that I think describe what it’s like to be twenty very well. I just turned 21 in February and I don’t even know where to begin. I moved away from home in Lindsay when I was 18 to go to college in Oakville. It felt really weird at first but also exhilarating. I mean I didn’t really have any rules to follow and could kind of go through life on my own schedule. I was so excited to be grown up. Now I recently graduated college in October of last year and have been feeling a bit lost. I often think to myself, “What are my twenties for?”. I think there's a lot of societal pressure to get your life together even though you still feel like a teen. I feel like I should already have a career started along with a house and a car but I’m not quite there yet. A lot of my fellow college graduates are also feeling the pressure of finding a job because my god is it tough out there. I think it’s important to remind ourselves that it’s okay if we don’t have everything figured out right away. At the end of the day age is just a number. I think it’s okay to take your time and enjoy what each age has to offer you. Whether that’s finding a career and sticking with it or feeling out different types of jobs and hobbies you enjoy. The best thing about this age is that, like the roaring twenties, this is our time to grow and change as people to see what truly fits us. We have the opportunity to mess up and try again until something works out because we’re still so young. I’ve been so nervous since I created this website to actually post something on here, but then I realized if there’s a time to do this, that time is now. |
